Lady Wildcats No Match For Lady ‘Cats

BGHS beats Wildcats by nearly 40 points

The Bowling Green High School girls’ basketball team (3-2) put the clamps down on Wright City last week.

The Lady ‘Cats went on the road to Wright City and gave up a season-low 26 points in a 62-26 Eastern Missouri Conference win over the Lady Wildcats.

It was the first time this season that the Lady ‘Cats had held an opponent to fewer than 5 points in the first half.

“Hopefully that raises everyone’s eyebrows and that people realize that our defense is something that we pride ourselves on,” Bowling Green High School Head Coach Craig Smith said in an interview after the game.

Last week’s game was never in doubt as Bowling Green jumped out to an early 16-1 lead over Wright City and never looked back.

The Bobcats scored a season-high 42 points in the first half to take a 42-5 lead into the locker room.

After the game, Smith said Bowling Green did a nice job of sharing the ball offensively and for playing clean defense.

“Defensively we did really well early on in the game,” Smith said. “We didn’t pick up too many silly fouls. Sometimes, in a game like this, that is hard to do because you lose focus. Thankfully, tonight, we were able to stay within our game plan and to be in the right position at the right time to get the steal and to create scoring opportunities for ourselves.”

The Lady ‘Cats continued to dominate the Lady Wildcats in the second half, trouncing the host team.

Bowling Green senior Caitlin Bilhartz led the way for Bowling Green, scoring a game-high 15 points. Madeline Norton had 12 points for Bowling Green in the game. Gabi Deters followed closely behind with 11 points, while Kinley Charlton had 10 points.

The Lady ‘Cats will continue their quest for an Eastern Missouri Conference title on Tuesday at Louisiana. Tip-off for that game is set for 5:30 p.m. After that game, the Bowling Green Lady ‘Cats will play Mark Twain on December 17, and against Van-Far on January 11.
