Denslow takes two medals at state track and field competition

Senior Donovan Denslow took bronze in two long-distance events at the lead of a large Clopton contingent at Class 1 State Track and Field Championship in Jefferson City this weekend.

Denslow broke the school record in the one mile by finishing the race in 4:31.94 and came .04 seconds short of beating the school record in the two mile, coming in at 10:14.53. Denslow already held both records.

In the one mile Denslow was edged out by Titus Thompson of the School of the Ozarks (1:04.734) and Evan Smith of Chadwick High School (1:03.544). In the two mile, Smith also took first (10:07.01) and Preston Thomas, of Princeton High School, took second (10:12.63).

Elsewhere on the Clopton squad Beverly Abel came in 12th in the 300-meter hurdles (50.63) and junior Shawn Yates placed 15th in the 110-meter hurdles (18.49).

The team sent three girls relay teams and one boys relay team to state. The 4×100 girls relay of freshman Emily Oakes, junior Madi Parrish, sophomore Caragan Lockard and sophomore Laura Huckstep placed 16th (55.76). The 4×200 girls relay of Abel, Parrish, Lockard and Huckstep placed 15th (1:56.16). The 4×400 girls relay placed 15th (4:41.78) and consisted of Parrish, Talbert, Lockard and Abel.

The boys 4×400 relay placed 14th (3:47.71) and consisted of junior Dylan Smith, senior Robert Rothbard, Yates and Denslow.

On the strength of Denslow’s performances Clopton ranked 24th in the statewide competition, which put it in the top half of ranked teams.

BOWEN COMPETES FOR LOUISIANA

Senior Chad Bowen was Louisiana’s representative in the Class 2 state meet after qualifying in the 110-meter hurdles. He came in 12th on the day (16.92).
