Baseball embarks on season “right in the thick of things”

Louisiana’s baseball team played its first ballgame Tuesday against Silex, launching itself into a season in which head coach Ryan Griffin says will put the team “right in the thick of things.”

The team has 16 players on its roster. Griffin said the number may make it tricky to field junior varsity innings, given pitch restrictions recently put into place by the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA).

The details of the roster give Griffin a few reasons for optimism: a player kept off the field by an injury last year, two promising freshmen with lots of extracurricular playing experience, and a bevy of returning athletes.
