John Eldon Cannon, 89, of Clarksville, Mo., died Monday, May 18, 2020, at the Parkside Manor in Bowling Green, Mo. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2020, at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, Mo. The Rev. Daniel Denbow will officiate. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Clarksville, Mo. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 21. 2020 at the funeral home.
John was born April 19, 1931, in Parker, Kan., to David H. and Lillian Y. Staples Cannon. He was married to Mildred “Biny” Davidson May 2, 1954, and she died earlier on April 13, 2018.
He is survived by one son, Glenn David Cannon and wife Lois of Eolia, Mo., two grandchildren, Glenn David Cannon II and wife Leigh, and Cheryl Rebecca Stodgell and husband Paul, great grandchildren, David James Denbow, Abigale Faye Denbow, and Graham Davis Cannon and one sister, Jordina Travis.
His dear wife, Mildred, his parents, Lillian and David Cannon, a brother, Charles Cannon, and a sister, Joanne Henderson, all died earlier.
John grew up in Clarksville, Mo. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War from 1952-1954. He worked at Caterpillar Tractor in Peoria, Ill., before moving back to Clarksville. He then went to work for the Missouri Highway Department until he retired in 1993.
John loved helping out at bingo, playing with his grandchildren, and specifically liked being with his best friend and neighbor, Burton, whether going fishing, just working in the yard, or tinkering on their cars or lawnmowers. John was a man anyone would love to have as a friend. He spent his last months at Parkside Manor and had many friends. He will be dearly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pike County Home Care and Hospice or to the First Responders of Clarksville, Mo.
