Janet Kirks

Janet R. Kirks, 62, of Bowling Green, Mo., died unexpectedly on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020, at Barnes/Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

She was born on Nov. 30, 1957, in Mexico, Mo., to Dr. J.R. and Jackie Dougherty. Janet was raised in Vandalia and after high school graduation, she attended the DePaul Nursing program. St. Louis University is where she received her R.N. Degree.

Janet met her future husband in college. They went together for four years and were joined in holy matrimony on Nov. 8, 1980 in Vandalia. To this union were born two sons: Jeremy and Jason. For 17 years, she worked as an E.R. nurse at Hannibal Regional Hospital, and later worked for Pike County Hospital as a surgical nurse. For the past two years, Janet was employed at the Vandalia Women’s prison. She liked working on puzzles and vacationing at Gulf Shores, Ala. Her family was of the utmost importance to her and she cherished each and everyone of them.

Surviving are her beloved and devoted husband, Timothy Kirks; her sons: Jeremy (Caytlin) Kirks, Jason (Kaylee) Kirks and her grandchild: Deegan Kirks. She is also survived by her mother, Jackie Dougherty and her brother, James Dougherty; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Her father, Dr. J.R. Dougherty, died earlier.

A service scheduled at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, 2020, at the McCoy-Blossom Funeral Homes & Crematory, 701 N. Business Hwy 61, Bowling Green, MO 63334. Fr. Henry Ussher to officiate.
