James William “Willie” Swarnes, 62, died May 8, 2023, at his home in Clarksville, Mo. Cremation rites are being provided by Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, Mo.
James was born Aug. 24, 1960, in Louisiana, Mo., to Forrest and Katherine Swarnes.
He is survived by his daughters, Amy McCulley (Steve) of Mexico, Mo., and Jessica Swarnes of Center, Mo.; a son, Dustin Kappel of Holland, Mich.; step-sons, Max Oestreich and Mark Oestreich; his grandchildren, Shelby Bowen, Cody Bowen, Walter Bowen, Aiden Garrelts, Mataya Peterson; siblings, Carolyn Stokes of Bowling Green, Mo., Phyllis Kinsler of Elsberry, Mo., Margaret Blackwell (Derrick) of Clarksville, Mo., and Frank Swarnes (Vicki) of Louisiana, Mo.; brothers in-law, Calvin Slaughter of Elsberry, Mo., and Dave Howard of Louisiana, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, Forrest and Katherine Swarnes; two sisters, Wanda Slaughter and Bernie Howard; a step-son, Matthew Oestreich; and a brother in-law, Mark Stokes, all died earlier.
James worked as a tug boat operator for many years in Louisiana, Mo. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, going fishing, camping, playing pool, and enjoyed spending time with his beloved chihuahuas. He was known by all as Willie and had lived a very full life. He will be missed by his family and friends.
