Helen Allen

Helen June Allen, 91, of Vandalia, formerly of Bowling Green passed away May 14, 2019 at the Tri-County Nursing Home in Vandalia.  

Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Bibb-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green.  Burial will be in the Vandalia Cemetery.  Visitation will be held 12 – 2 p.m., Saturday May 18, 2019 at the Bibb-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green.  

June was born June 27, 1927 in Shamrock the daughter of Albert and Irene Elbe Hirsch.  She married Richard N. Allen Jr. January 14, 1948.  He died March 20, 1982.  Survivors include son John Allen ( Becky) of Knoxville, Tenn; daughter-in-law Catherine McKenna Allen of St. Louis; 3 grandchildren Justin R. Allen (Mallory) of Knoxville, Tenn, Kaitlin Brown (Dusty) of LaFayette, GA, and Jeffrey Allen of St. Louis; one great grandchild Jaymeson Allen.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son James “Bob” Allen; brothers Albert, John, Willard and Joe Hirsch; sisters Irene McCown, Charlotte Wallace, Nettie Williams, Lillian Stokes,  and Alberta Hirsch.

June grew up in Shamrock/Middletown area, lived in Vandalia most of her life, and moved to Bowling Green to be by family and spent the last year at Tri-County Nursing Home in Vandalia.  She graduated from Middletown High School and loved to knit, crochet and cook.  June had her own little bakery and made wedding cakes and pies for the Vandalia area. 

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Pallbearers will be Mike Allen, Melvin Dempsey, Mike Dempsey, Bruce Johnson, Ed Gooch, and Dennis Johnson.
