Anna Ruth Gordon Lewis, 87, of Frankford, Mo., died Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
Services for Anna were Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Bibb-Veach Funeral Homes and Crematory with Rev. Frank Welch and Rev. David Land officiating. Burial was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Bowling Green. Visitation was Monday, March 6, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Anna was born Oct. 13, 1935, in Curryville, Mo., to Peter Dee and Roma Lily (Cox) Gordon.
Anna attended eight years of school at Pleasant Grove School and then four years at Bowling Green High School.
Anna married Orie Lee Lewis on Dec. 25, 1954. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in 2009. Orie died Aug. 16, 2010.
Anna and Orie adopted a son, Johnny Lee Lewis in 1970. In 2000, they added a daughter-in-law, Kristen Lewis to the family, and later four grandchildren: Joshua, Blake, Tiana, and Daisy. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Louise Gordon and Bonnie Ingram. In later years, Pam Corlew and RT and Bonnie Momphard became close companions of Anna’s.
Anna and Orie enjoyed helping people and doing things for others. They served as foster parents for a few years. Ann made a lot of baby quilts and other quilts in her lifetime. She taught Sunday School for over 55 years, served as the church treasurer for many years, volunteered for vacation bible school, served as a WMW director, and helped with the children’s church camp as long as she was able. She also cared for many children while their parents worked.
Anna liked spending time with her her son and his family, as well as nephews, nieces, and friends. After Orie passed away, she hosted a monthly gathering of relatives at her home for games and fellowship. Anna began writing to widows in 2008. As of 2014, Anna has 16 ladies she corresponds with every month.
Anna accepted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized in April, 1948. She was a member of Peno Baptist Church, where she had been since 1955.
Anna joins her parents; husband; brother, Peter Dee Gordon; aunts and uncles; and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Gary Taylor, Archie Taylor, Matt Taylor, Marvin Taylor, Steve Lewis, Roger Ingram, Bob Ingram, Donnie Ingram, Jake Finley, Josh Lewis, Blake Martin, Jeff Hickerson, Randy Gordon, Darren Gordon, Faryar Moshtaghi, Bo Williams, and Calvin Colbert.
