The Louisiana Public Library, women’s club GFWC Chatauqua and the dog rescue organization Diva’s Wish came together the Saturday before last to host a program teaching Pike County’s children about man’s best friend.

Amber Hughes, the co-founder of Diva’s wish, brought three rescue dogs she had adopted. The children had a chance to play with the dogs. The children were instructed about animal care and animal safety and read to from the childrens book “Do You Give a Dog a Donut.” The young attendees enjoyed snacks and could take home their own book about dogs.

Diva’s Wish is run by Hughes and Tami Smith. They are considering putting on similar events in the future.

“I love kids and dogs, and they’re great together,” Hughes said. I know its chaotic, but they’re having a great time.”
