Artist of the Week

The Middle School Art Studio has been shifting from teacher directed to a choice-based art class. Choice-based art education is an approach to teaching art that gives students more control over their learning and the creative process. It encourages students to develop their own ideas and artistic thinking, and to grow at their own pace. At the start of class I teach a mini lesson on an art technique, media, artists, etc. The students can use this in their artwork or save it for later. Students have to fill out a plan sheet and discuss ideas with me before working in a studio. The students at BGSM have been going above and beyond my expectations! It is amazing to see students develop new skills and create art that is meaningful to them. Owen Feldmann is the artist of the week this week. Owen has been working in the drawing studio the past few weeks. His artwork content is all about family and farming. He really focuses on every detail and spends a great deal of time sketching. Owen does an excellent job on proportions and texture lines. He continues to grow his drawing skills by working on his value (shading). Great job Owen!

In the Christmas spirit

Decorating tree ornaments for the 21st CCLC Twin Pike YMCA got Clopton YMCA students in the mood for Christmas! Students traced their hands on green construction paper and then cut their hand prints out to use as branches for a large Christmas tree display. They decorated their hand prints with multiple items including markers, glitter, glitter glue, pom poms and more. Creativity shined in the classroom as students tried to make an original work of art.
