WAYNE YOUNG

(Oscar) Wayne Young, 93, of New Hartford, passed away Monday, July 21, 2025, at Hannibal Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family. An only child, Wayne was born on March 19, 1932, to Oscar Mastin Young and Bessie (Wright) Young on the family farm in New Hartford.
Funeral services for Wayne will be Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at Bibb-Veach Funeral Homes and Crematory in Bowling Green with Pastor Jim Craig and Pastor Mike Dallas officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Ashley, Missouri. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 23rd, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Wayne grew up in New Hartford on the farm which he owned for the rest of his life. He joined the Army and was a paratrooper. When honorably discharged, Wayne returned to the family farm with his sweetheart and their new son.
They raised sheep, swine, and cattle, as well as row crops, alongside their family. Wayne began selling feed, seed, and more farm supplies, eventually starting Young Enterprises, Inc. with his family in New Hartford, which is still run by the family today.
Wayne was a faithful member of the Second Baptist Church in Bowling Green, where he was a deacon for many years. Later in life, he watched church services and gospel singing online. He enjoyed Opry music and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities.
When Wayne finally retired, he enjoyed riding around to check the crops, coming up with ideas, and visiting with the neighbors. He always kept up with the news and could be found sitting in the garage watching the traffic go by when the weather was right.
Wayne was a 10+ year cancer survivor who participated in the Relay for Life in Pike County to celebrate his victory. He maintained comfortable health to enjoy many more years.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Marjorie (Kerr) Young; children: Gary Young (Linda), Bill Young, and Marilyn Motley (Ernest); grandchildren: Tabitha Craig (Scott), Rachel Craig (Jim), Bart Young (Amanda), Heather Niemeyer (Chris), Jill McCann (Cody), Austin Motley (Kirsten), Landon Motley (Samantha), and Kaden Motley (Kenslie); and great-grandchildren: Emma Craig, Evan Craig, Lily Craig, Madison Craig, Gannon McCann, Jaxson Niemeyer, Mason McCann, Easton McCann, Jace Niemeyer, Josie Niemeyer, Ellie Motley, Abbie Motley, Maggie Young, and Camryn Motley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Gene Kerr; and Gene’s wife, Cena.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Bart Young, Austin Motley, Landon Motley, Kaden Motley, Scott Craig, and Cody McCann. Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandchildren.
